Vis Center Reveals New Videos

The Vis Center Media Department recently revealed new videos at the “See What’s Now” Media Showcase. Included in the showing was a newly completed documentary on the University of Kentucky’s Solar Decathlon team’s trip to Washington D.C. and as well as a documentary examining research on how smoke free cities impact health.

In October UK’s blue team joined 19 other schools from across North America and Europe for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Solar Decathlon competition at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The 20 teams chosen to compete were asked to create and send an 800-square-foot or less solar-powered house, built by students on their home campus, to the National Mall. Each team’s house was evaluated in the competition, running Oct. 9-18, in 10 specific areas. We are proud our UK team came in 9th in the overall competition.

Also shown was a short documentary on research regarding the smoking ban passed in Lexington in 2005. Ellen Hahn, professor in the College of Nursing at the University of Kentucky, and her team are conducting tobacco policy research into how smoke free cities impact health. Hahn’s efforts resulted in the passage of a smoke-free ordinance in all public buildings within Lexington, Kentucky, one of the first cities to do so.
